Can I use purple hair dye over my current black hair dye or will it not come out?

my natural hair colour is brown but i have been dyeing it black for about 2 years now..i really want it purple and i hav the dye but im worried it will make my hair go ginger or something. Do you think the colour will come out or would you reccomend i go to a hairdressers and get the current dye stripped out of my hair before i use the purple?

yeah, if anything, if you put it over the black dye, you may get a very light purple 'sheen' over the parts that are most faded, or you may end up with purple roots and black hair. You should probably get your hair stripped professionally first, if you want it to be a vibrant purple, or if you want less damaging, you could always just get small strands here and there stripped, so you have vibrant puple highlights. I dye my hair black as well, and I loved the purple 'highlights' I once did, they looked great, and made my hair look purple all over in the sunlight.
