Can knee braces be good for overweight old lady, already recommended knee replacement?

My mother is 70 yrs old, weighing 104 kg, height 5'. Additionally, suffering from cardiac problems as well. She has been experiencing severe knee pain for several years, and was diagnosed to be suffering from arthritis. Recently a doctor from a mid-size hospital suggested her to go for total knee replacement. Another doctor suggested her to go for knee-braces, saying that her over-weight may be a problem after knee replacement. She leads a sedentary life style. Please suggest if knee braces could get her some relief from the acute pain. And also a good doctor/hospital in eastern India who can do it?

i dont think knee braces would alleviate arthritis. and knee replacement is not much of a good idea for old people tho. there are meds to alleviate the pain. other than that, ask the docs for other options. goodluck!
